Click here for pictures from the event April 20, 2008 The 4th annual Jeff Lambert Memorial fishing tournament was truly a blessed event. Official chef Jason Koch and his team of Jeff Parkinson and Travis Taylor treated us to breakfast burritos, pancakes, bacon, sausage, barbequed chicken, shrimp and crab legs and home made pies. Purity Dairies provided all breakfast beverages and Vitamin Water kept us hydrated for two days. Tom Herring, Ryan McDonald and Tommy Alsup did a fantastic job setting up the weigh-in stage, PA system and everything else at the pavilion to allow the rest of us to fish. Travis Taylor’s message on Saturday night was particularly inspirational and encouraging. The facilities at the Lake Guntersville State Park were tremendous and thanks go to the Lake Guntersville State Park Convenience Store for extending their hours again to accommodate our gas needs. John Bornstein once again coordinated the printing of great looking T-shirts to help commemorate the event. Local guide Wesley Black and first-timer Andy Afflick did a wonderful job in guiding our special guest Dylan Raney and his dad Tracy. Andy also won the Sportsmanship Award for rescuing two local anglers after their craft capsized. The fishing actually exceeded the tremendous fishing from a year ago. All participants were able to catch some fish and a record number of keepers (93) and weight (293) were brought to the scales. A three plus pound average is one of the reasons we go to this lake. We would also like to thank BASS Elite Series pro Jon Bondy for participating with us and guiding all three days. Jon’s experience on the tournament trail and how he lives his life are a testimony to how much he loves the sport of fishing and how much he loves the Lord. The boater division was a battle for 2nd place as David Gnewikow brought big bag after big bag to the scales on Saturday. 18.08 in session 1, 17.68 in session 2 and 17.30 in session 3 which made up a 5 fish stringer of a Back40 record 27.96. He also caught the boater division winning big bass of 7.38, also a Back40 record. He caught his fish on a spinnerbait and a Carolina rigged Brush Hog. Finishing in second place was defending champ Scott Brummett with 15.46. David also won the Top Guide award and kept his yellow towel for another year. His non-boaters weighed in 21.34 including a 5.74 caught by Jeff Flint. Wesley Black was 2nd in the Top Guide category with 18.76 and Jon Bondy was third with 15.84. Tim Jones guided Ben Byers to his first keeper in a Back40 event as well as helping Jared Smalling to a catch in his first year. O’Neill Gray put Barry Estes on two solid keepers that weighed 8.16 to temporarily hold the yellow Top Guide towel after session 1. The weights in the non-boater division were also record setting. Aaron Kelly’s best five fish totaled 21.04 anchored by the largest bass in the division – a 6.36 largemouth caught with Jon Bondy on a Rattlehead spinnerbait . Barry Steele weighed in 15.82 for second place and last year’s champ Dylan Raney was a close third with 15.22. Ronn Steen had the second largest non-boater bass with a 6.14 largemouth caught with Drew Boggs. Drew filmed an episode of his show “As Real As It Gets” during the weekend and was a tremendous addition to our boating division. Look for Drew’s show to air in the coming weeks on ION.Jared Smalling won the Horizon Award given to the most intense non-boater. Adam Birch won the Rough Fish award. All award winners will receive their plaques at the 2008 Wild Game Dinner on September 27th with guest speaker Rick Burgess of Rick and Bubba. On Saturday night we gave away door prizes from OTB Boots and an All Star rod donated by Jon Bondy. The 2009 dates are set for April 17th – 19th at the Lake Guntersville State Park. We have all the facility’s cabins reserved for next year. Mark your calendars now and invite others to attend. If you took pictures at the event please submit them to David Matthews at david@lineoneweb.com for inclusion in our photo galleries. |
