May 2008 - Construction crews organized by Back 40 Outreach spent several days in May working on renovation projects at Camp Sycamore Creek. A new porch was added to the dining hall, trenches were dug for the underground electrical, and improvements were made to the road. Many children who grow up in public housing never have the opportunity to explore outside their own neighborhoods. Most have never built a campfire, hiked in the woods, or taken a vacation. Each year Camp Sycamore Creek will provide this serene experience for over 500 children. Camp Sycamore Creek was previously owned and operated by Youth Encouragement Services for 20 years. During the last 20 years, the camp has become in need of major structural repairs and renovations. ![]() Camp Sycamore Creek's goal for the upcoming year is to upgrade all the on-site facilities to ensure the safety and well being of all the campers. They plan to provide free camp use for Y.E.S. as well as other inner city children. Camp Sycamore Creek is working to ensure that no Inner City Child is denied the benefits of summer camp due to financial disadvantage. Thousands of children in our inner cities need financial help to get to camp this summer. It's more than recreation. Visit their website at: www.campsycamorecreek.org |
