April 21, 2009 The 5th annual Jeff Lambert Memorial fishing tournament was our best yet. The fish catching actually exceeded the tremendous fishing from a year ago. All participants were able to catch fish and a record number of keepers (156) and weight (440 pounds) were brought to the scales. This crushed last year’s results of 93 keepers and 293 pounds which were the previous tournament highs. Official chef Jason Koch and his team of Jeff Parkinson and Travis Taylor treated us to breakfast burritos, pancakes, sausage, barbecued chicken, shrimp, crab legs and home made pies. Purity Dairies provided breakfast beverages and Vitamin Water donated drinks for all participants. Travis Taylor spoke on short notice Saturday night and blessed us with his testimony. Video produced by Dr. Tom Whitfield The boater division was a battle down to the final session with David Gnewikow defending his title by bringing in 25.36 lbs just ahead of Scott Brummett with 23.44 lbs. Jeff Hollingshead caught the boater division big bass of 6.75. Scott Brummett won the Top Guide award earning the coveted yellow towel. His non-boaters consistently brought fish to the scales again this year. In the non-boater division Alex Stock’s best five fish totaled 18.96 and earned him the title this year. Matt Dickerson brought a non-boater record big bass to the scales at 7.32. The fish was just short of the all-time big bass of 7.38. Will Garner won the Horizon Award given to the most intense non-boater. Back40 wishes to thank Cliff Butt of the Tennessee Children’s Home in Spring Hill for bringing Alex and Will to the event this year. Thanks to Lee Riley for being our official weigh master and to Xtreme Glove for their product donation. All award winners will receive plaques at the 2009 Back 40 Outreach Sportman's Dinner on September 19th with special guest speaker Clay Dyer. On Saturday night we gave away door prizes from Buck Knives, Vitamin Water, All Pro Rods and Strike King. The 2010 dates are set for April 9th – 11th at the Lake Guntersville State Park lake view cottages. Mark your calendars now and invite others to attend. If you took pictures at the event please email them to Back 40 at info@back40outreach.com for inclusion in our photo galleries. - JD Blackburn ![]() |
