2006 Back 40 Outreach Fishing Tournament Recap

Back 40 Fishing TournamentApril 13, 2006 - The Jeff Lambert Memorial Fishing Tournament at Lake Guntersville April 7-9 was a great success. Jason Koch, Back 40’s new official chef, fed us like kings and the Lake Guntersville State Park cabins weathered the storms of Friday night and provided a great setting for the event.

The fishing was challenging again this year with mostly male bass being caught in shallow water but for the most part the spawning females were nowhere to be found. However, David Gnewikow did catch a beautiful 6.10 pound female along with 3 other keepers to win the Boater Division at 12.90 pounds. Aaron Kelly caught a 2.85 pound fish for the largest Non Boater bass and Adam Semanchik caught 3 keepers for 5.5 pounds to win the Non Boater Division. Barclay Fisher caught a 3.55 pounder for the 2nd Big Fish and he also captured the Rough Fish division.

Scott Gray won the Sportsman Award for towing in the stranded boat of a local angler. Trevor Coe won the Most Intense Angler award for wanting to continue fishing after being thrown into the 60 degree water of Town Creek.

Other fond memories include; Tom Herring’s spring scarf ensemble, spinner bait cranes, Jon Waldron showing a raccoon who is boss, horny toads, kill switches and bald eagles.

On Sunday morning Brad Betts talked about his friend Jeff Lambert whose battle with cancer ended this year. Jeff’s inspiration and legacy was the topic of a lot of our conversations over the weekend and we enjoyed the opportunity to celebrate Jeff’s favorite past time in such a beautiful place. We also spent time together Sunday morning to celebrate our Savior Jesus Christ.

Thanks to Purity Dairies for all the drinks, Lebanon Kubota for giving a new Stihl chainsaw to the most intense angler, Hunt’s Outdoors for the gift bags and Clark Marine for the hats and life jackets.

See you all at the next Back 40 event.

    Tournament Coordinator
