Juggin' Tournament a Hit!

fish basketJuly 19, 2007 - Juggin'...Noodlin'...Blocking...no matter what you call it, the meaning is the same...FUN! When you tie a line and hook to a buoyant object, add some bait, and throw it in the middle of the lake... your heart rate rises at the anticipation of catching a whopper. Then, as you scan across the water with an eagle-eye approach, you notice one of your rudimentary fishing machines bobbing up and down and begin to streak across the lake as if it has a Mercury OptiMax 250XS mounted on it's back. You've got a fish on! Your adrenaline starts to fill your veins as you motor alongside the frantically moving jug. You reach down, grab hold of the jug, and feel the weight of the mystery on the other end of the line. As you pull the line in, the fish comes into view and you hoist your new found spoils into the boat. At the end of the day, you sense the smell of conquest in the air...along with the stench of whatever nasty bait you were using.

The Inaugural Back 40 Outreach Jug Fishing Tournament was held on Percy Priest Lake on the night of July 14th. The tournament was a big hit for eveyone that gathered at Four Corners Boat Ramp to test their juggin' acumen. The weather was perfect and the fish were biting.

Winning team: Matt Dickerson, John Bornstein, Barclay Fisher

The team of Rick Frawley, Jacob Frawley, William Frawley, and Zach Wesley landed a nice basket of seven catfish. Big fish contender, Keith Pinkston, took the hot seat early on with a 5lb. catfish. But, in the end it was the team of Barclay Fisher, Matt Dickerson, and John Bornstein that took home the big fish trophy with a 5 1/2 lb. flathead catfish.

We had several folks that had never jug fished before. One person is quoted to have said, "If I knew juggin' was this much fun, I would have started doing it a long time ago." Juggin' is a lot of fun and it can be enjoyed by people of all ages and by people with little or no fishing experience.

Back 40 Outreach will definitely be scheduling another juggin' tournament next year. Be sure that you have signed up for our email newsletters so that you can be notified of future events.

Keep on juggin',

David Matthews
